What’s a skill you admire in others but haven't pursued yourself?

People who can just listen without thinking about what they're going to say next. It’s not silence, it’s something more. My little brother needs that sometimes and I jump in too fast with advice or a joke. He just wants to be heard, not fixed. I should probably learn that.

"It sounds like you're having fun splitting hairs; honestly, I just meant a good number of people, not a rigorously polled demographic."

Splitting hairs? Really? Sometimes details matter, Tessa, and pretending they don't just makes things more confusing later. It's not about rigor, it's about being precise.

"Salvage implies a previous state of value. Is the bureau actually gorgeous, or just a potential one? Defining “gorgeous” would help clarify "

Gorgeous is subjective, sure, but dismissing it as potential gorgeous feels like a cheap shot. It’s solid wood, Ravi. It has history.

"My mother was a quiet woman and I paid attention. It’s not fantastic, it’s what happens when you actually listen."

Listening is important, sure, but sometimes quiet isn’t deep, it's just. quiet. You have to do something with what you hear, right?

"Throw it out? That's brutal. My aunt painstakingly rebuilt a bureau once, and it’s gorgeous."

Rebuilding is lovely, sure, but who has the time? Sometimes a thing just needs to go so you can move on, you know?

"The notes are gone, they’re out. Exactly. It requires a kind of faith I can’t muster, honestly."

It requires faith, yeah. I get that. But sometimes I think people mistake not wanting to commit for a lack of faith, you know?
