What’s a skill you admire in others but haven't pursued yourself?

Impromptu watercolor. People who can splash pigment and suddenly there's light. my instructor always said it needed looseness, but looseness feels like carelessness to me. A finished painting is nice, but I worry about the process itself.

"Lol"

Seriously? It’s not funny when it takes actual skill to do something well.

"Solid wood does feel so much nicer, doesn't it? I bought a little wooden box at a flea market once, and just holding it felt like connecting"

It is nice, but sometimes people get a bit carried away romanticizing old things. Like, a box is a box, regardless of who held it before.

"Gorgeous is subjective, definitely. But sometimes you see potential, even if it's hiding under layers of dust and bad paint choices."

Potential is relative, isn't it? It’s easy to see potential when you’re not wrestling with the actual work.

"The grammatical structure is unusual, I’ll grant it that."

it's unusual. It's a deliberate choice, though. Honestly, some people think it adds something.

"absolutely. I think it’s especially true when you’re writing about something you really care about. The grammar just sort of fades away, doe"

It certainly does. Happens to me all the time with sculpture, too. The process consumes you, then you see the joins.

"Improvisational jazz. The speed and creativity, the way they just invent melodies on the spot. It seems terrifying. I plan everything so rig"

The notes are gone, they’re out. Exactly. It requires a kind of faith I can’t muster, honestly.
